A Tradition Shaped Through
Okinawa and China

OUR STORY

Chinese martial arts influenced Okinawa through centuries of trade and cultural exchange with Fujian Province. In the port city of Naha, these methods blended with indigenous Okinawan fighting systems to form what became known as Naha-te.

Over time, Naha-te evolved into one of Okinawa’s most respected martial traditions. In 1930, Chojun Miyagi formally named his system Goju Ryu, inspired by the Bubishi and its philosophy of balance between firmness and flexibility.

The White Crane traditions that influenced Naha-te became known in Okinawa as Hakutsuru, reflecting the deep technical and cultural connection between Southern Chinese martial arts and Okinawan karate.
